Morris Bowey's research:
I'm pretty certain I have figured out what happened to Mary Ann (Argus) Shackson. William and Mary Ann Shaxon are listed on the "Amelia Thompson", the same voyage that William Bassett was on in 1841 heading to New Plymouth, New Zealand. I found the attached newspaper article from NZ which listed some passengers on board the "Amelia Thompson" and it mentioned Shackson and then in brackets "wife died on board".
I then searched for the passenger list for the "Amelia Thompson" (attached) which lists William Shaxon 23 & Mary Ann Shaxon 20, and against Mary Ann it says "died April 9th from plurisy having had previously a disease of the heart".
So it appears that they boarded the ship only a few months after marrying, so definitely no children to this couple. It seems that William Shackson remarried in 1844 in NZ to Mary Ann George and had a number of children (all girls I believe) and died in 1865. So the two William Shacksons that appear on Ancestry and are said to be born in Devon around 1814 to 1820 are the one and the same, "William Mason Shackson".
