Consistory Court about the Parish Rates for Saint Just in Roseland, dated 1633.
One of the witnesses was Philip Argeis of Tregony where he has been resident 24 yrs he doposed that he was 50 years old and that he has been born in Ugborough in Devon.
He gave evidence that in 1632 under the instruction of Hannibal Randle, he and two of his servants has worked for four weeks upon the Parish Church of Saint Just. By trade he was a Halyar, he received 3 pounds 2 shillings. He had used 16,000 healing stones on the Church, well worth 4 shillings per thous.
The Return for Ugborough in 1641 (The Protestation Return) includes in the list the name of William Argest, and the Muster Roll of 1569 has Simon Hargest.
